My name is Kellie Allen. I live just over the Michigan line with my husband of 16 years and our 4 kiddos. Our oldest is a senior in high school
and our youngest is in third grade (time flies!). We embrace the chaos (and I can embrace yours too).
I'm an easy-going kinda girl with a touch of OCD. I enjoy all things creative - crafting, digital scrapbooking, re-decorating my house,
singing, and finding new ways to embarrass my children. I'm a huge Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars fan (yes I'm a nerd).
I love to travel and experience new things.
And I loooove to sleep!
I've been taking photos for as long as I can remember, and shooting professionally for about 20 years. My first camera was a tiny
110 LeClick (80's colors of course). I had some basic photography and photoshop classes in college. I have an associate's degree in graphic design, but most of my skills were self taught. You can learn a lot from trial and error! Thank you to Dr. Photo and Rick Williams who gave me a chance in the studio, and sealed my love for photographing people. I can't actually remember a time when I didn't have a camera attached to my body and I wouldn't have it any other way! I truly love my job! It is quite an honor to be asked to capture your memories in photos.
Although it's been called by various names, icandy photography has been around since about 2001. It started as a side hustle while I was working full time at a portrait studio/photo lab. I photographed a lot of weddings in those first few years. In 2006 the studio I was working for went out of business. That's when icandy really gathered momentum. In 2007 I decided to rent a studio space downtown and was finally able to shoot completely for myself. About 5 years ago I moved into my new space in Point Place. I love the location and it's lack of stairs (those of you who have been around awhile know what I mean). I now like to concentrate on family and children portraiture. It's such a joy to watch families grow from year to year.
I strive to provide a relaxed, private portrait experience. There isn't a waiting room full of other clients staring at you while we're shooting. It's just us. And it's distraction free for your kids (and pain free for the hubby). I plan enough time to not feel rushed but understand limited attention spans. I enjoy creating sets that speak to your tastes, and always consider your preferences. I have tons of backdrops and props available for use in your session. I like to keep things natural - no overly photoshopped images here. That's what snapchat is for. I provide digitals for your convenience. And I try to keep my turnaround times reasonable - I know how torturous it is waiting for that email!
